If your school assigned you a "Rho Gamma" or "Recruitment Counselor" and you're not sure what that even means, here's the plain explanation.
Who they are. A current sorority member who disaffiliates from her own chapter for the recruitment period, meaning she wears no letters, doesn't mention which chapter she's in, and can't advocate for her own chapter to you. She's done this specifically so she can be fully neutral and fully yours.
What she does. She's assigned to a small group of PNMs (usually 10 to 20) and guides that same group through the entire week: walking you between houses, answering questions, checking in on how you're feeling, and functioning as your one steady, judgment-free person in an otherwise unfamiliar process.
Why disaffiliation matters. It means she genuinely doesn't push you toward her own chapter, she's trained and often bound by Panhellenic rules to stay neutral, and it's one of the more thoughtful design choices in the whole system, since it gives every PNM one adult in the room with zero stake in the outcome.
What you can (and can't) ask her. Ask her anything about logistics, nerves, what to expect, how the ranking process works, whether crying at pref is normal (it is). Don't expect her to tell you which chapter to rank first or gossip about chapters, that's outside her role and she's not allowed to anyway.
The honest value of her: by day three, most PNMs say their Rho Gamma became the most reassuring person in the entire week, precisely because she has nothing to gain from how you rank anyone. Use her. That's exactly what she's there for.
